Environmental Policy at Beyond the Border International Storytelling Festival

At Beyond the Border we are committed to reducing the environment impact of our Festival and associated activities as such we are committed to the following

• Strive to secure year on year reductions energy use at our Festival by implementing a range of energy efficiency measures, eliminating the use of diesel powered generators and introducing renewable energy alternatives wherever possible.
• Seek to minimise water use at our Festival by implementing a range of water conservation measures across our Festival site. We will also be banning the sale of plastic water bottles and encouraging all our festival goers to bring their own water containers.
• Only contract with on-site caterers and traders that are able to supply fresh local produce, or food and drink that comes from ethical and sustainable sources.
• Work with our on-site caterers and traders, helping them to serve their goods to festival goers in ways that minimise waste. Our ultimate aim in this respect will be to achieve ‘Plastic Free Festival’ status.
• Ensure that any other waste materials arising at our Festival site are disposed of in the correct bins by our Festival goers, then further segregated to enable the maximum amount of residual waste to be recycled.
• Encourage our festival goers to choose the most sustainable travel option in getting to our Festival site – sharing their cars with others as a minimum option.

In order to achieve these aims please note the following;

• Beyond the Border has a reusable cups only policy on site. Single-use plastic drinks bottles will not be available to purchase on the festival site.
• Only compostable or reusable plates and cutlery will be available for stalls and traders.
• We will prioritise local traders when selecting traders for the festival.
• All cans, glass, paper, wood and organic waste collected on site will be separated and processed by our Waste Management Company.  We ask that you help us to achieve zero waste into landfill by thinking carefully about any products that you bring and bin at the festival campsite.
• We have provided information on travelling to the site using public transport options and ask that if you do travel by car you do your upmost to share by offering or getting a lift with others travelling to the festival.

We want festival goers and campsite users to be able to enjoy the incredible landscape, environment and heritage sites of Dinefwr that we are so grateful to be able to make the home of Beyond the Border for 2021. Dinefwr is the only parkland National Nature Reserve (NNR) in Wales and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is a microcosm of Welsh heritage and natural history. We want to leave the festival site with no impact and ask that you respect all notices and signs with regards to the Park and the wildlife which inhabit it.
